Placement begins...

The first week on placement has begun and the students have been set their first project within the photography module. Taking the time today to get to know the group I will be working with throughout the week has really helped me to get settled in. Each student has experienced photography in a different way and I think that setting aside time to discover their experience is helping me to direct them. Some students have more knowledge of technical ability and some focus more within the thought process and expression of the images they make. These students can each learn from each other as both of these elements are important. The first day focussed on the students looking into research, talking to each other and begging to make images. Observing the class I found this to be a helpful ice breaker as the class were enthusiastic and full of ideas. By the end of the day all of students had found a photographer that inspired them and had made some imagery. I noticed a difference also in how they had started to look at photographs questioning the meaning and narrative. What a great start.
