My interest in photography began when I was studying for my GCSE qualifications in school. At this time my brother was undertaking his Degree in Graphic Design at Glamorgan University and within this he partook in a photography module. My brother handed down to me my first 35mm film camera and I began to discover photography teaching myself the basics. As my fascination grew I began to look into how photography could be incorporated into my studying. This led me to study on a part time Photography A level once a week on an evening after school. Following the first year of the course and completing secondary school I enrolled on a foundation Art and Design course at Merthyr Tydfil College, whilst studying on the final year of my A level. I studied a degree in Photography in the Art’s at Swansea metropolitan university and graduated in July 2012. Following my degree I applied to become Artist in Residence on the Foundation Art and Design course at Swansea Met. Within this role I worked with the students using the experience I have gained whilst studying my Degree, passing on my skills to them. I helped the students with practical and theoretical work. I also held Photoshop and Pin Hole camera lessons with groups of students. Working within this role I have developed an enthusiasm to work within education, passing on my skills to help further student’s learning and development. I hope that the PCET will enable me to gain further skills and the qualifications needed within the teaching practise so that I am able to further my career within Art education.
An interesting and exciting start to your career in teaching and learning, looking forward to hearing more
